India was rich in past because because there was no exploitation of our resources by britisher as well as trade ,art,mathamatics, etc all flourished at that time.Which declined after the arrival of british.Moreover India was the only country to have diamonds till 1869 i think so.India used to export a lot of spices to foregin country

India was rich in past because we used to export a large amount of spices, and other things. People of that time were not as stupid as of now. Our country was called golden bird due to our richness. India was rich before British. Precisely, British was the only reason for India to be a starving nation. They looted us and ruined us.

When British arrived India, Indian cloth merchants were holding 27% of the total world trade while this was decreased to 2% after they started to rule. This doesn't mean that their production became worthless or any other country overtook India. In fact our resources were looted by British and they made use of it for their economical boost. 

British is the only reason for the present status of our country. If they didn't come here, we would be probably the most developed nation.
