why was it felt earlier that undivided political power was better? what changed this nation and why?

In the earlier times, monarchy was the system of government in which the power was in the hands of the monarchs only. 

Undivided power was considered better because under that system of government the trade expanded in different regions. The Era of Expansion of the Europeans was under undivided power. 

During the 18th century, the democratic system of government was introduced. People became aware of the importance of divided power and social, political and economic equality.

The idea of undivided political power was thought to be better as the entire power of one government would be in the hands of a single person or group. The notion of having a central source of power was appealing to some as they felt that all government related decisions could be taken immediately and quickly from a single authority. As time went by, it was found that having the power in an undivided manner actually delayed decision making and increased conflict among people. Hence the notion of undivided political power was changed with the emergence of democratic rule which ensured

1. less conflict among people

2. equal voice for everyone in framing public policies

3. stability of political order
