Why was it necessary for PN Shah to conquer Makawanpur and surrounding areas of Kathmandu valley before invading Kathmandu Valley?

It was necessary for Prithivi Narayan Shah to take Makwanpur under control for his victory over Kathmandu valley for the economic blockade of the valley. Blocking the valley would make it easier for Prithivi Narayan Shah to conquer Kathmandu valley.
