Because of manusmiriti the chaturvarna system became rigid and hereditary. Manusmiriti coded laws of chaturvarna graded inequality system. If any system is enforced by laws and punishment then it will become hard and rigid in due course of time. That's what exactly happened in our Hindu social organization. Before manusmiriti we heard about lot of conversions from one varna to another with respect to one’s own choice & worth, but after manusmiriti people forced to retain their existing varna for ever due to the enforced laws. Also manusmiriti branded all the communities which had their own occupational name into the Four-fold chaturvarna graded inequality system and thus the result of upper and lower notions between castes were became permanent and fixed.
