James I was resistant to working with Parliament because he believed in absolute power of King or political absolutism.
James I, the king of England from 1603-1625 was hostile towards the Parliament. He believed in Divine rights of King and did not want to share the powers with any one. So He ruled without the consent of Parliament and went against the Parliament openly. He believed in political absolutism i.e King is the head of all forms of government and source of all power.
