That Saturday was near the end of the month and hence it was expected to be a busy day. Also the Friday before that had been a half holiday and so the work was piled pretty high that Saturday. This is why John came late.
Gladolia doesn’t want Lavinia to be disappointed with John as he was unaware of the party she was throwing. Hence, Gladolia warned him to get ready in no time for the party to please her.
