Why was Mr Brownlow surprised when he saw Oliver besides the portrait ? Why was the portrait taken down ?

Mr Brownlow was surprised on seeing Oliver besides the portrait as he thought that Oliver resembled the lady in the portrait very much.

  • Oliver had been getting fever for days. When he wakes up he sees housekeeper watching over him, Mrs. Bedwin. He says he feels as though he had come to sit by his mother.
  • The story of the pitiful life of Oliver bring tears Bedwin's eyes. When Oliver is healthy enough to sit up, he 's taken downstairs by Mrs Bedwin, this is when  image of a young woman catches Oliver 's attention and profoundly influences him.
  • Mr Brownlow dropped in to see how Oliver was feeling. With astonishment, Brownlow exclaims that Oliver closely resembles the young lady in portrait. Oliver is shocked by Brownlow's exclamation
