Mughals were misguided people.

They thought people of all religions other than Islam were kafir. So either kill them or convert them.

They misread Qur'an.

They were just old day terrorists.

Why special hostility towards Sikhs? Well, because we didn't used to take sh#t from anybody. Sikhs stood firm on their believes. So firm that even after bearing the-wildest-a-demonic-mind-can-imagine kind of atrocities they did not relent.

In those hostile & injust times Sikhs kept there fortitude and passed it on to generations through Gurbani and other verbal couplets that have now become part of the folklore.

Sir Jaave tan jaave mera sikhi sidak na jaave.

Which means that I don't care if I have to give up my life, I won't digress from the path of Sikhism.

And during the time of , probably the most tyrant Mughal ruler of the 18th century, Sikhs turned there anguish into strength through these popular lines (Punjabi).

Meer Manu Sadi Datri, Asi Manu De Soye

Jeon Jeon Manu Wad Da, Asi Doon Sawaye Hoye

Which means "Mannu is our sickle, We the fodder for him to mow,

The more he cuts, the more we grow."

To have a small feel for what Sikhs went through during the reign of Mughals just take a look at the sculptures depicting sikh event at the , Ludhiana or pay a visit there. One of the sculptures is shown in the image below. And there are many more.

Why did they do it?

Sikhism is a peaceful religion. But at the same time it stands strongly & bravely enough for Justice, Freedom & Righteousness. Sikhs have always been tolerant of other religions and accept people from other religions as brothers/sisters. In the past they have went out of there way to help others and stand with the weak. Examples are resplendent in sikh history where a sikh not only advocated but gave up his life for rights of other religions. Can anyone imagine a Muslim sacrificing himself for rights of a Hindu? Sikhs did that for the Kashmiri Pandits & plenty of Hindu women in the past.

Even modern day terrorist (especially who call themselves pro-Islamic) use two things to justify their actions.

1. Verses from Qur'an.

2. Incidents from Prophet Mohammed's life.

But the fact is we see in these holy text what our soul wants to see. No amount of arguments taken from any religious text can justify inhuman practices.
