Why was Nelson Mandela imprisoned?

Answer:
Hope it helps... Mark as brainliest.
Explanation:
. Nelson Mandela was a political activist fighting against an oppressive system known as “Apartheid”. Eventually Nelson Mandela co-founded the militant Umkhonto we Sizwe group in 1961 after joining the SACP (South African Communist Party - who is/was based upon Marxism).
A series of terrorist sabotage acts were caused by Umkhonto we Sizwe (headed by Nelson Mandela) with the main aim of overthrowing the State (Government). The worst and most tragic (little known) sabotage act was the so-called Pretoria bomb, where 19 innocent civilians were killed during rush-hour in Pretoria. Nelson Mandela admitted that he gave the go-ahead in his book “The long road to freedom”.
In 1962 Nelson Mandela was arrested in the so-called Rivonia Trial for “trying to overthrowing the State”. He was sentenced to life in jail (but was released after 27 years).
So to sum up, he was he was arrested and went to jail for terrorist acts, although his intentions may have been noble.
In the end Nelson Mandela surprised many people by his sense of forgiveness and nation building. His own words and worry was that the people would idolise him too much and that was (according to what I heard) one of the main reasons he stayed on as President of SA for only one term.
He shall remain an example for many of us who are not emotional about many issues, preventing SA from becoming a true Rainbow Nation as he intended and as we all want and hope for.
