the opium trade was important as

1)they wanted the tea from china

2)they had to give something in return to china and they didn't want to empty their treasury

3)they saw that India's fertile soil was enough for growing opium and hence started growing

4)they hence transported the opium from india china, tea from china to England

5) it was called the triangular trade
