POTA stands for Prevention of Terrorism Act, this act was passed in the year 2002.

Parliament passed this act to replace the TADA ( Terrorists and Disruptive activities Act).

Under POTA the police and other Intelligence agencies is gained more power to investigate the anti Nationalist activities.

The confessions made under the police detention allowed as admissible proof in the court.

This Act was mainly introduced as a measure to limit the misuse of Anti-terrorism crackdown activities by Central Law agencies.

But later on, after two years, this act was suspended for being misused by the law agencies.
