Ramlal was worried about Bholi because she neither had good looks nor intelligence.
At the age of ten months, she had fallen off the cot on her head, which perhaps had damaged some part of her brain. And this made her a backward child, incapable of proper speech and always very simple.
Again, at the age of two years, she had an attack of small-pox, which permanently disfigured her body with deep black pock-marks.
This is why Ramlal was worried about her daughter, because no suitable groom could be found for her.
