Answers
The Ramsar Convention was first signed in the city of Ramsar in Iran, in 1971. It is an international Treaty for conservation and sustainable use of the world’s wetlands. Wetlands are ecosystems, partially or completely submerged under water, permanently or seasonally.
Some of the main objectives of the Treaty are as follows:
1. Conservation of wetlands as waterfowl habitat.
2. Conservation of ecosystems that support the flora and fauna common to wetlands.
3. Sustainable use of wetlands, to prevent man – nature conflict.
4. Raise international awareness on the importance of wetlands.
The 2nd of February, every year, is celebrated as the World Wetlands Day.
Ramsar convention was designed for several reasons in India .
Some of the reasons and their explanation includes
Proper use of wetlands which was in order as they were used in agricultural development and major food security to the country.
Conservation of wetlands as they were highly protected from overuse and early exhaustion making it proper.
The national land use was also in a good channel in the design of Ramsar convention.
