why was revolt of tribe not succeeded against British
Answers
Explanation:
The first war of Independence started in 1857 initiated with the Sepoy Mutiny and then expanded to more regions standing against East India Company (EIC) and their atrocities. The revolt was brutally curbed by the company using power. They initially remained quite and planned how to stop the rebels and then struck them to crush the revolt. Some of the main reasons were:
1. No single strong leadership. Bahadurshah II was last of mughal emperors, old and did not have much command.
2. Unplanned revolt that spread through various regions without much cooperation between them
3. Punjab's sikhs supported the company and Major part of south India was not involved in the revolt
4. Everyone was fighting for their own self and not necessarily against company. Peasants were fighting against Zamindars which led to loss of a clear direction
5. Rebels of 1857 were mostly fighting with lathis etc and did not have access to modern weaponry whereas company had advanced weaponry to crush the revolt.
The revolt lasted for about 2 years and made an impact on company. Revolt led to end of company raj and the throne of India was handed over to the British Monarchy Directly. This war opened up the doors for many more nationalists to demand of their rights and raise against atrocities. It has a huge contribution to the Indian National Movement
