In 1828 imported tea seeds were germinated in Joypur
and later on at Dinjoy (Chabua) in Upper Assam. Here
mention may be made that "The Bengal Tea Association" was
formed in 1838 by some rich people of Bengal and some
Europeans with a share capital of Rs.10 lakhs. But they
faced with some difficulties like acute shortage of labour,
technical know-how, machines and tools as well as transport
bottleneck. During that time Mr. P. Jenkins was in-charge of
the Assam Valley while Mr. L. Charlton was in-charge of
Sadiya. it was then exported to england for sale
