As the author has told in the chapter he was not liking to write ghost stories. He was writing ghost stories because to earn some money as his wife was a shopping minded lady. I hope this would help you

authour was thinking about ideas for a ghost story & he was in tension about his wife that when he will get his salary his wife will waste all his money in shopping this was the reason authour was disturbed.
