The cotton textile industries were mainly concentrated in the cotton growing belt of Gujarat and Maharashtra, in the early years because - 1. The moist climate of the area helped in the growth of cotton. So raw cotton was readily available in the area. 2. There were ports nearby  so the manufactured goods could be easily transported. 3. There was enough labour force in the area. There were farmers, cotton ball pluckers and workers who did the work of spinning, weaving, dyeing, tailoring and sewing. 4. It was easy to access the markets for finished goods from here. 5. Other supporting industries involved in manufacturing dyes and packaging materials were available in the area.
