There are many reasons why anti-dowry laws are presently ineffective like greed, NRI preference, caste system etc. But after seeing so many marriage s and divorces in society, we can't entirely blame the boy and his family.

The birth of girl even in well to do family is rarely a happy occasion. Even if they love her it's always in their back of their mind to marry off to a rich educated groom as early as possible. Girls are taught from childhood that they are only temporary guest s here and eventually have to go to husband House.

Even women start believing that their existence is only to get married, feed, cook, clean, serve, nurture and bear children.

A single, divorced, widowed has no right to be happy.

Her happiness is somehow linked to her husband and in-laws.

For a girls family, it is mandatory to get her married. They are ready to shell out any amount for this achievement.

And that amount is dowry.
