✒Amendments to the Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 in the offing. In order to provide more teeth to dowry-prevention laws, the Government has decided to make it mandatory for couples to notify the list of gifts exchanged during their wedding ceremony.

✏This Act may be called the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

✏It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

✏ It shall come into force on such date (Note: It came into force on 1st July, 1961) as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
