⬛ The First World took place in 1914 in Europe and spread soon all over the World .

⬛ The immediate cause of the War was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand , the heir to the throne of Austria - Hungary .

⬛ The assassination was performed by a member of the Black Hand Society also called the "Union of Death" .

⬛ The assassination was done by extremist Serbian nationalists and the date was 28 th June , 1914 .

⬛ Austria served some demands on Serbia and when she did not accept all of them , Austria declared the War .

Germany , Britain , France and every country got involved . Only U.S.A remained neutral .

⬛ The immediate cause was not as deeper as the real causes of the War .

There was competition for colonies and the countries in Europe set up an atmosphere of political tension and mutual hatred for them as colonies provided raw material and also gave prestige and power to the imperial nations.

Development of aggressive nationalism or the love for one's own country and hatred for the others was also a chief reason .

Europe was also divided into 2 hostile groups namely : Triple Alliance and Triple Entente .

Europe was under the state of international political and mutual tension because of the mad race for armaments.

All these factors led to the War .

⬛ In the War , Germany was defeated , and the Treaty of Versailles ended the War .

It was a harsh treaty and were dictated against the defeated nations.

⬛ This Treaty led to the Second World War ( 1939 - 1945 ).
