Many people suffered numerous kinds of exploitation in the market place:-
1. Shopkeepers used to weigh less than what they should.
2. Selling of harmful products like tobacco.
3. False rumours in the markets.
4. Rampant food shortages, black marketing, hoarding etc.
These all problems led to the consumers putting pressure on the government and the end result was the formation of COPRA ( Consumer Protection Act) , 1986. This act provided the consumers with many kinds of rights like Right to safety, right to choose, right to information etc. Now, consumers are protected against such exploitations.
