Explanation:
Storming of the Bastille
The storming of the Bastille initiated the rise of the French Revolution.
On 14 July 1789, the king, Louis XVI, commanded troops to march into Paris. Some 7,000 men and women formed a peoples’ militia in wake of the rumours that the king had commanded to open fire. They broke into a number of government buildings to procure arms. A group of people marched towards the eastern part of the Paris city and stormed the fortress-prison, the Bastille in hope to find ammunition. In the armed fight, the commander of the Bastille was killed and the only 7 prisoners were released. The fortress was reduced to stones and the fragments were sold as souvenirs of its destruction. Historians look at this time as the beginning of a chain of events i.e the French Revolution itself.
