The author's grandmother was disturbed when he started going to the school because in city school he learnt English words and western science and learning the law of gravity, Archimedes' principles. She was distressed that they were not taught about God and the scriptures.

The grandmother was disheartened to hear that the school taught music lessons to the students. She considered music to be a downgraded activity which belonged to beggars and not to the gentlefolk. Besides this, she was disturbed to hear that there was no religious teaching rendered in the school.
