Answer:

This is a question from the chapter "Last Lesson" written by Alphonse Daudet.

The title of the chapter was named as Last Lesson. This was because, Franz and his classmates where going to attend their last lesson of their French Class from their teacher M Hamel. A lot of emotions and sorrow is seen among the villagers as well as Franz.

It was their last lesson because, order from Berlin had come which stated that German would be imposed in schools of Alsace and Lorraine from the next day and French would not be taught anywhere in those districts. This happened because France lost these 2 districts to Germany as a consequence of war.

The teacher, the villagers and all the students repent for their mistake of judging time wrongly as they always felt that there was enough time to learn French. All of them console themselves with reasons and M Hamel takes a lesson French Grammar bidding farewell to all his students at the end with a sad note.
