the Government of India appointed by second backward classes commission in 1979. BP Mandal was the head of Mandal Commission, so it is popularly known as Mandal Commission.

The Mandal Commission was setup in order to :-

• determine the criteria to identify the social and educationally backward classes in India.

• Tu recommend steps to be taken for their advancement.

the commission give its report in 1980 and made following recommendation :-

→ 27% of the government jobs for reserved for socially and educationally backward classes.

→ the report and Recommendation were discussed in the Parliament on 6th August 1990 Government of India took a formal decision to implement recommendation.
