The mansion belongs to the canterville family and is chased by the ghost of sir simon de canterville who murdered his wife, eleanore de canterville and after which his guilty spirit still haunts and chases in the mansion. So the mansion is called the canterville chase

The house originally belonged to the family of Canterville, before Mr. Otis bought it from Lord Canterville. Moreover, the term "Chase" refers to privately owned hunting grounds. Probably surrounding thehouse was a semi-forested area used for game shooting.
