The word 'swadeshi' means 'of own country'. The movement was done by the people of India for the annulment of the partition and was a great movement for the nationalism. The movement opposed the British rule and encouraged the ideas of national education, use of Indian languages and 'swaraj'(self rule, i.e. rule by the Indians on India).
Hence I feel that it was called swadeshi movement because of:
- Struggle done by Indians
- Encouragement of swaraj
- Ideas of national education
- Use of Indian languages
