It was a protest against the monarchic and direct rule of the king of Nepal, King Gyanendra, to end his undemocratic rule and establish a People's Republic.
The target of the Seven Party Alliance(SPA) was to form a Nepalese parliament and also create a constituent assembly, thus giving rise to a new constitution.
