The narrator did not order anything for himself except the mutton chop which was the cheapest dish on the menu but when he realized that the situation was beyond his control as the lady was ordering expensive food items one after the other, then the narrator became past caring. He stopped thinking about the bill as already the lady has destroyed and went over the narrator's budget, so ordering a cup of coffee could not make any difference in the destroyed budget. If the lady could eat expensive foods by the narrator's money then why the narrator cant have coffee from his own money. And already the narrator decided if the bill would be more then he will leave his watch there and pay later.

Answer:

The narrator was past caring because his guest, the lady had been ordering one expensive item after the other. Initially, the narrator thought he could save some amount from his little earning, but then he realized that there was no scope of saving anything, rather it was questionable whether he would be able to cover the expensive bill after so many items had been ordered.
