Answer:

The non-cooperation movement was started by Gandhiji in 1920. A peaceful procession was fired upon by police at Chauri Chaura in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh in 1922. The people became angry and set the police station on fire. in this along with one officer 22 policemen were killed. Gandhiji was deeply hurt by this incident. Therefore he withdrawn the non cooperation movement on 12 February ,1922
