Why was the period from 1793 to 1794 referred to as the 'Reign of Terror' ?

it is called so because during that period Robespierre was ruling and he was somehow ruling in the way the dictator does . all those who were against him and were acting against his orders were Guillotine. this was the machine created by Dr Gullotine. This machine directly slaughtered people. But this finally came to an end when Robespirre was Gullotined himself the same way he used to punish people

The period from 1793-1794 is referred to as the "Reign of Terror" because Maximilian Robespierre ;then head of Jacobins club followed the policy of serve control and punishment.

1) If any one whether the his own people did not agree with this policies or decision then they were guillotine.

2) His governmentn issued laws placing a maximum ceiling on wages and prices.

3) Meat and bread were rationed.

4) The use of expensive white flour was forbidden; all citizens were required to eat the equality bread.

5) Instead of the traditional Monsieur (Sir) and Madame (Madam) all French man and women were henceforth Citoyenne ( Citizens).

6) Churches were shut down and their buildings were converted into barracks and offices
