There would be many cases in which purpose of the photographer wasted such as:

1. A client orders a portrait of himself, and dies before payment, so the purpose of making money with the photography was wasted

2. The photos were taken for a company ad, and the company went bankrupt, so the ads became meaningless

3. The product for which the photos were supposed to advertise was re-designed and the final product looks completely different than the prototype used for the photos.
