Originally Article, 19 and 31 gave to a citizen the Right to Property. But 44th Constitutional Amendment of 1978 withdrew the Right to Property from the list of Fundamental Rights and converted it into a legal right only. Now this right under article 300-A reads ,"no person shall be deprived of his property, save by the authority of law ".The state can take away the property of a person only in public interest, by the authority of law, after paying him the proper compensation.
