They started opposing the reforms vehemently. This opposition forced the British Government to introduce Anarchical and Revolutionary Crime Act commonly known as Rowlatt Act on March 21 1919, which was virtually enforcing Marshal law curtailing freedom of peaceful assembly and restricting press.
