Why was the Rowlatt Act passed?

Rowlatt Act (1919) aimed to suppress the nationalism in India. The act stated that any individual or group oppose British he/she would be arrested immediately. This act was branded as black act by Indians. Gandhiji  announced the anti rowlatt satiyagraha opposing the act.

Rowlatt act passed because the British in order to suppress nationalist who refused to be satisfied by official reforms and to keep a check on revolutionary terrorism
