The Salt March has three points of significance:

(1) it brought the British to the table to talk about self-rule,

(2) strengthen Indian resistance to the Raj (British rule), and

(3) displayed to the world the plight of the Indians and the benefit of nonviolent civil disobedience. The Salt March began on March 12, 1930 as a protest of the Salt Tax.

Salt law was a part of civil disobedient movement. It was launched so that the indian could not make or sell salt. So thats why Gandhiji started protest against this law through a Dandi march.
