Krishtakka and other women at the village find Kashi Yaatra very interesting as they can identify themselves with the protagonist of the novel who has an ardent desire to go to Kashi and worship Lord Vishweshwara, for that is the ultimate 'punya' in life. Moreover, the way Triveni has written the novel, common people find her story and the character very close to their own lives, hence the popularity of the novel. I think more than social justice, it brings out what is ultimate 'punya' as the woman of the novel saves money for her pilgrimage, but spends her entire saving for the wedding of an orphan girl who was in need of help.
