Answer:Yes this practice of using coal in steam engine was discontinued as it took much coal for the steam engine to run. In earlier times the coal was not produced in bulk. Also the regular burning of coal was a cause of air pollution and global warming. This reason was understood by the new generation who was facing the consequences of it. Therefore it took too much time to discourage this practice
