After Independence, it is evident that India has made great progress in industrial development
It has created large scale employment and as a result, urbanization has also developed
In order to support housing facilities to growing migrant public, water resources have been transformed into residential plots
Apart from that, industries pollute water by discharging hazardous wastes, chemicals etc which in turn make the water not potable to use it any more
Ground water level has also decreased considerably as housing colonies in urban areas use devices like bore wells to pump water
These are the main reasons for increase in water shortage problem in India after Independence
