Various conflicts arose when Yugoslavia broke apart in the 1990s,
including the Bosnian War. Kosovo also separated from Serbia during this
time, adding to the chaos in the Balkan Peninsula.

The east European region under the control of empire of TURKEY was known as BALKAN REGION it was near to Mediterranean Sea & for trade purpose it was the main route hence all the Nations were interested in that region.
