Only Indian indigo was there which was very cheap as it was forcefully grown by Indian farmers at cheap rates by the Britishers.

because europe's climate is not favourable for growing indigo.it was used as a dye and produced good colour. it produces a rich blue colour n d climate in Europe is not favourable to grow indigo. at that time indigo is less expensive for the Europeans.and indigo is used for various purposes.that,is why indigo has a great demand
