If you are referring to the movie 'Charlie and the chocolate factory' and the scene where he gets the last golden ticket and reads it to his family then everyone was just shock that Charlie actually got a chance to visit chocolate factory of Willy Wonka.
It was written in the golden ticket that he gets to visit chocolate factory for a day and bring one gaurdian with him.
There was silence because at first when Charlie came home and told everyone ,no one believed. When Charlie reads what's written on the ticket everyone realises that he is not at all lying. That's why to express shock there was silence in the room.
