They were valuable because--- 1. Act as a good source of information on native life and customs. 2. Useful in governing Indian society which includes large diversity of castes and communities. 3. As outsiders they knew little about life carried inside Indian households. 4.They showed how people dressed, ways of worship, beliefs, practices etc.

the new novels of UN has descriptions of domestic life and they had information about social life which can help the colonial government to target the weak points through these novels easily
