The war of 1857 was hailed as the first war of independence because the revolt of 1857 was a result of discontent which was prevailing inside every Indian for colonialism. The East India Company ruled India for about 200 years but it was for the first time that when someone revolted against the British in 1857. Farmers were forced to grow many crops which served as the raw material for the British Industries. also many parts were sanctioned which were not liked by the Indians. Due to such broader array of causes historians believe it to be the First War of Independence.
