Wounded Knee was a very sacred place for my tribe, and on December 15, 1890, reservation police tried to arrest Sitting Bull, the famous Sioux chief, who they mistakenly believed was a Ghost Dancer, and killed him in the process, increasing the tensions at Pine Ridge. But the sad part is nearly half of the Sioux killed at the 1890 Wounded Knee massacre were women and children. At the Wounded Knee Massacre site today, there is the mass grave that was used to bury our people, there is over 100 massacred Natives there underground, which has been there since the late 1800's.
