Answer:
Sulekha or bholi was said to marry the rich grocer, Bishamber. He was quite elder to Sulekha. he was approximately Sulekhas father's age.
When the auspicious day arrived, Bishamber came with his whole family, in a very pompous manner
When then time to garland the bride arrived . he found out Bholi had pock marks on her face. He turned to Ramlal and demanded 5000 rs for marrying Bholi. Even when Ramlal begged him not to ask for such a price, Bishamber stayed adamant.
Ramlal finally gave up ans gave him the 5000 rs. Bishambir happily took the cash and proceeded to pick up the garland to put it on Bholi. but Bholi's hand immediately struck out and threw the garland into the fire. She refused to marry the Greedy Grocer.
Hence Bholi and Bishamber's marriage was unsuccessful
Sulekha, called Bholi by everyone was a mentally ill girl because she fell off the cot when she was ten months old. Also, she suffered from pox a little later, which left pock marks on her face.
She was sent to the village school by her parents for a very strange reason. The tehsildar had ordered Bholi's father, a numberdar, to send her daughter to school as well but in the society of those days, it was believed that if girls will go to school and become educated, no one will marry them.
Since Bholi was mentally not well and also didn't look good, the chances of her getting married were already less. So, it was decided that Bholi will be sent to school.
After years, a man Bishamber, of the same age as that of Bholli's father, decided to marry another woman after his first wife died.
Everything was going well but at the mandap, he saw pock marks on Bholi's face and therefore decided to take an amount of Rs. five thousand from his father or reject to marry her.
His father was ready to pay two thousand but he demanded five thousand.
It was then when Bholi stood up and spoke not to marry him.
The girl who had never said anything before spoke up now because now she was educated and knew her rights.
Hence she rejected the marriage and continued her life as a teacher in the same school in which she used to study.
