Why wasn't Buddhism followed in India?

in India there are many religions like hindu Muslims Sikhs Christian etc many people are hindu and follow the hindusim and Muslims follow Islam etc but people who follow the Buddhism they died in war of Muslims and Buddhism so the Buddhism are not follow in India
