why water cannot be used to put off fire caused by oil

THE FIRE CAUSED BY OIL CANNOT BE EXTINGUISHED OR PUT OFF BY FIRE BECAUSE OIL IS LIGHTER THAN WATER AND IT WILL FLOAT ON WATER AND KEEP BURNING.....

Because oil flammable liquid and water is also liquid. if we used water to put off fire it get mix so it can't put off fire.
