Hey mate here is ur answer !!!
To supply water in a town big tanks generally in form of cylindrical shape are built quite high. They are made high so that pressure of water becomes more and hence , water can flow to buildings located at a higher level or the upper floors of multistorey buildings can get water easily .
When the demand of water is more , which happens during summer moths , people living in upper floors of a multistorey buildings always complain of low pressure of water. This happens due to viscosity (i.e., friction within liquid) . So to raise the water from the ground floor to upper floor, an external device called pump is used.
For Ur better understanding I have explain this in briefly..
Hope it will help u ..
