Water Hyacinth ( Eichhornia crassipes ) . Also know as " Terror of Bengal " .
The plant was introduced in water bodies of Bengal for the beautiful flowers and shape of the leaves . However , It turned out to highly invasive water weed .
And Scourge of water bodies that not only spread to all standing water bodies of the Bengal but also throughout  whole country due rapid vegetative multiplication through offsets . Its so hard to get rid off it . This plant drain oxygen from the water .
Its result in asphyxiation and hence death of the fishes and other water dependent animals . By dense growth kills other Plants too .

Water hyacinth [Eichornia] divides very fast in the water bodies through vegetative propagation. It soon form a layer on the water body allowing no supply of light in the water due to which the aquatic life is unable to take up the dissolved oxygen resulting in the death.

But nowadays we are using it in our daily life suppose if there is a water body near an industry and the Industry is releasing its polluted water containing heavy metals, toxic substances then we grow this water hyacinth (terror of Bengal) there due to which it takes up all the heavy metals dissolved in it and soon is water body dries.
